Reading the map

2026-02-02

A few tips for getting the most out of the map.

Clusters

Points are grouped into numbered clusters so the map stays fast even with hundreds of thousands of points. Click a cluster to zoom in; keep clicking until you reach individual points.

Named vs. show all

By default the map shows only named places — the ones with a real name in OpenStreetMap. Use the toggle in the top-right corner to show all, including unnamed entries. Your choice is remembered the next time you visit.

The detail panel

Click any point to open the detail panel. It pulls a description from Wikipedia, a photo from Wikimedia Commons (or Mapillary as a fallback), the place's OpenStreetMap details, and — where available — its Google rating. A reviews section is coming soon.
